Hackney WickED Art Festival has confirmed some of the events that will be happening during 3 days of extravaganza Friday 29 - Sunday 31 July. This summer is going to be HOT! Gallery exhibitions in Hackney Wick will include the 4th edition of Tomorrow People at Elevator Gallery, showing artists of the future now. See Studio will be commissioning a full program of festivities and Oslo House will host A Tea Room with a View showcasing a mix of architectural drawings, prints, photography, vintage and contemporary fashion. Other studios that have confirmed to be opening their doors will be and many other studio buildings in White Post Lane and surroundings.
Promising Live Art will be brought by Liquid, SPACE, Mother, The Peanut FactoryPerformance Spaceand The Yard Hackney will be lounging a new theatre for the festival. Across the canal in Fish Island Forman’s Smokehouse Gallery will be hosting the exhibition Braziliality that explores the Brazilian cultural roots of over thirty international artists. Stour Space will show its resident artists through a group exhibition, boutiques, a corner carnival and a designers market. Site-specific work includes Shadow of the Wick, a rooftop projection through the landmark Hollywick sign.
The Outside World will be presenting Born Wicked, showing all stars in their gallery in a caravan and brings a moving art show Everything Flows, a cave-like exhibition in a van to Hackney WickED; and much more to be confirmed. This year Panta ReiHackney WickED’s education and participation program also continues with Exchange hosting a residency for 4 artists. One of the particularities of this edition is the commissioned work sponsored by Muf Architects. We are artists, how can we help? will reflect on what it means to be an artist community in the shadow of the Olympic fence.
Events that will be running alongside the Hackney WickED Art Festival include a Floating Cinema showing an outdoor screening of locally-shot film by St Etienne the yard of Forman’s Smokehouse. There will be artist film screenings at Folly for a Flyover and Harry Meadows will be presenting his Coracle Regatta on the canal. A pop-up restaurant turned into a gallery by The Poachers Pocket plus annual events including Fish Island Street Party, Hackney Wick Flea Market and Fete for the Wicked are some of this years attractions for the newly Wicked. Last but not least, Hackney WickED’s live music stage will project illuminations by Lemon Curd Lighting and will host an eclectic mix of local and emerging musicians. More exhibitions, open studios, events and pop-up spaces yet to be confirmed.
