Missum's of Miss Bugs (first solo show) Brighton 21st October - 21st November

Missum (Miss Bugs) @ Ink_D Gallery (Brighton)
21st October - 21st November

Missum, one half of street art sensation Miss Bugs,
to exhibit first ever solo work at Ink_d Gallery

Missum is one half of the artist collective Miss Bugs. This unique artistic partnership, founded in 2007, has produced a body of work that has achieved international acclaim and developed a passionate home-grown following. In early 2011, Missum began to explore her own individual aesthetic. Departing from the kinetic, graphically-led collage style that had become synonymous with the work of Miss Bugs, Missum’s focus addresses a more traditional method of printing. This new approach, which incorporates the use of watercolours, collograph and dry-point etching, has given the artist’s work a darker edge that yet imparts a more feminine, softer tone. In these pieces, the artist can be seen to be developing her mark-making, whilst also addressing new themes and pre-occupations. The work resonates feelings of isolation and loss whilst the delicately dark, sombre palatte draws the viewer in to an unforgiving and often unsettling landscape. 15 - 20 original Missum works will be unveiled at the Ink_d Gallery, Brighton on Friday 21st October

About the Artist: Miss Bugs is a collaboration consisting of a male and female artist that have worked together since early 2007. Preferring to keep a low profile, the identity of both artists remains a closely guarded secret. Their work takes iconic imagery from pop culture and art history and reforms it using collage and other mix media methods. Referencing an eclectic range of artists, their work has appropriated Hirst’s spin painting, Koons’ sculptures and Mondriaan’s grids, all recomposed in colleges and silk screens to make what has become an iconic body of work. Miss Bugs have exhibited in London, Los Angeles (Bingo Night at the Promised Land, New Image Gallery, 2010) and New York (Too Many Artists, Brooklynite Gallery, 2009)

Meeting of Styles - October 8th - Hornsey Road

'GREAT STREET SHOW NOT TO MISSED'

Meeting of Styles - October 8th - Hornsey Road
(behind Holloway Road Station) 12 'til 12

Endoftheline presents the London Meeting of Styles - the UK's premier showcase of spraycan art. Featuring over 60 of Europe's best graffiti writers and artists, this independent event provides a unique platform for expression, raising awareness and demonstrating the incredible talent of this generation of contemporary artists.

Aerosol art, by it's very nature, doesn't live comfortably in gallery spaces or alongside corporate sponsorship, as such Meeting of Styles is curated by and for the artists. A free event, it's not run for profit and relies on no sponsors. This independence means the artists involved aren't beholden to anyone's agendas or subject to any form of censorship.

Now in it's fourth year, Meeting of Styles is family friendly and full of good vibes. Aside from the chance to see a veritable army of talented artists painting live, there'll be a cinema with a Reeps1 Beatbox installation, competitions, licensed bars, and cult carnivores - Meateasy providing the BBQ. DJs and MCs keep things rocking outside in the daytime whilst the likes of Lazy Habits, DJ Mylon, Rolls Royce, Trol23, and DJ Format on the ones and twos and Phi Life Cypher finish off the day inside. It's set to be an unmissable day out; a block party celebrating graffiti culture in a safe and inclusive enviroment.

Street Artist Roadswoth - New Book

In October 2001, paint was spilled on the streets of Montreal. A stark, primitive bike symbol, looking suspiciously like the one the city used to designate a bike path; a giant zipper, pulled open down the centre line of the street on a busy commuter route; the footprint of a giant, stomping through the city while people slept. Inspired by a desire for adventure and galvanized by a loathing of car culture, Roadsworth got down with an idea that had been incubating. The time had come for him to articulate his artistic vision, to challenge the notion of "public" space and whose right it is to use it.

By 2004, Roadsworth had pulled off close to 300 pieces of urban art on the streets of Montreal. In the fall, he was charged with 51 counts of public mischief. It seemed to signal the end of his career. Instead the citizens of Montreal and lovers of his work from around the world rallied their support. A year later he was let off with a slap on the wrist. Since then, Roadsworth has developed as an artist, continuing to intervene in public spaces and to travel the world, executing commissioned work for organizations such as Cirque de Soleil, The Lost O (cycled over in le tour de France), and for municipalities, exhibitions, and arts festivals.

In this playful and sometimes subversive book, featuring more than 400 reproductions of his unmistakable work, Roadsworth takes the urban landscape and turns its constituent elements on their heads, both indicting our culture's excesses and celebrating what makes us human (lest we forget).
